Academic & Co-curricular Achievements

In keeping with the past results, the School once again produced outstanding Board Results this year. In fact, the best ever.

ISC (12) – The Best Ever!!!

Out of 84 students who took the ISC (12) Examination, 14 secured 90% and above, 41 between 80% and 90%, 22 between 70% and 80% and 7 between 60% and 70%. Aparajita Singh topped the School with 94.75%, Shubham Sharma stood Second with 94.25% and Parishrut Badoni & Kartikeya Panwar stood Third with 93.75%.

ICSE (10) – An Outstanding Show

Out of the 130 students who took the ICSE (10) Examination, 33 secured 90% and above, 65 between 80% and 90%, 28 between 70% and 80% and 4 between 60% and 70%. Dinkar Juyal topped the School with 96.8%, Ankita Pundir and Rishabh Kediyal stood Second with 96.2% and Anubhav Arora stood Third with 95.6%.

Extra-Curricular activities

Iken Scientific Quiz

Ashmeet Singh brought laurels to the School, the State of Uttarakhand and his family by securing the Second position in the National Finals of the IKEN Scientific Quiz held at IIT Mumbai in January.

Over 4 lakh students participated in the initial stage of the Quiz held in November, 2008, out of which 2000 were selected for the City round and 160 for the National Round, Ashmeet, a student of Class VIII, was selected to represent the State of Uttarakhand as he stood First out of all the students who had participated in the City round held at Dehradun in November, 2008.

The National Finals were held at IIT Mumbai, where 160 students from all over India participated. Ashmeet perfomed well in all the rounds, including TECHNOMAZE, JUNKREATE, GAMINGZONE AND CONTRAPTION. He lost to the ultimate winner by just one point.

RIMC Challenge Quiz

The school team, comprising of Pranjal Gandhi, Dinkar Juyal and Kartikeya Singh, participated in the RIMC Challenge Quiz at RIMC on 18th April. The team easily qualified for the main quiz, where they put up a sterling display to be in the lead for a brief while before stumbling in the last couple of rounds to end up in the Fourth place.

Kids for Tigers Inter-School Fest

Twenty five Summervalians participated in the Kids for Tigers Inter-School Fest at Welham Boys' School on 25th April. Anshini Madan returned with the Second prize in the Fashion Show involving preparation and display of a dress made of an eco-friendly material.

Rajeev Khanna Memorial Inter-School Quiz

The School team, comprising of Pranjal Gandhi, Dinkar Juyal and Kartikeya Singh, participated in the Rajeev Khanna Memorial Inter-School Quiz at Scholars Home on 2nd May. The team did well to qualify for the main Quiz, where they were in the lead for the first four rounds before coming up against some tough questions in the later rounds to secure the Fourth position.

2nd International Mathematics Olympiad

The results of the second level of the 2nd International Mathematics Olympiad were received this year. Utkarsh Kukreti of Class XI secured an International rank of 107. Congratulations, Utkarsh!!!!

8th National Cyber Olympiad

The results of the second level of the 8th National Cyber Olympiad were received this year. Utkarsh Kukreti of Calss XI secured an All-India rank of 49 and won a cash prize of Rs. 500/- while Udit Kumar, also of Class XI, secured and All-India rank of 304 and won a cash prize of Rs. 250/-

11th National Science Olympiad

The results of the second level of the 11th National Science Olympia were received this year. Udit Kumar of Class XI secured an All-India rank of 152 and won a cash prize of Rs. 500/- Ankita Pundir of Class X secured an All-India rank of 408 and won a cash prize of Rs. 500/-. Well done and keep it up!!!

All-India Frank Anthony Debate

The School team, comprising of Afzal Badr Khan and Dhruv Joshi, participated in the All- India Frank Anthony Debate at Doon Presidency School on 13th July. The team put up a commendable performance but could not secure any position.

Mindspree 2009

A number of students participated in Mindspree 2009, the festival conducted by St. Jude's School, from 3rd to 6th August.

The School team, comprising of Dhruv Joshi and Ajita Banerjie, participated in the Senior School Extempore Debate. While Dhruv Joshi was adjudged to be the Best Speaker, the School team secured the second position. The school team, comprising of Dinkar Juyal and Kartikeya Singh, stood Second in the Academic Quiz.

< h5>Pt. Bhanu Pratap Shukl Memorial Inter-School Debate

The School team, comprising of Sugandha Khaitan and Beenu Virmani, participated in the Pt. Bhanu Pratap Shukl Memorial Inter-School Debate at The Indian Public School on 8th August. The team tried its best but could not win any prizes.

Workshop on Poetry Teaching

Ms. S. Parasher and Mrs. N. Mukherji attended a Workshop on Poetry Teaching organized by Ratna Sagar Publications at The Doon School on 8th August and found it to be an enriching experience.

Inter-School Hindi Debate

The School team comprising of Dhruv Joshi and Kranti Arora, participated in the Inter-School Hindi Debate at Cambrian Hall on 12th August. Dhruv Joshi secured the Second position in the Individual category. Congratulations, Dhruv!!!! Keep it up.

INCA Map Quiz

Forty teams, comprising of 120 students, participated in the preliminary round of the INCA Map Quiz organized by the Indian National Cartographic Association on 23rd August. Fifteen teams from the School qualified for the National Finals to be held in October, Summer Valley securing the first three positions at the State level. The team of Kartikeya Singh-Aditya Bahuguna-Aman Chandola stood First, the team of Aman Mathur-Shivam Mishra-Jiteen Bhandari stood Second and the team of Samanvay Pant- Aman Rastogi-Ashish Bisht stood Third.

The other teams to qualify for the National Finals were Shubham Kumar-Rishabh Anand-Aman Jain, Rahul Bisht- Divyanshu Nautiyal-Shivam Kotiyal, Manish Gusain-Akshit Nautiyal-Dhruv Chandok, Mansi Naithani-Sugandha Khaitan-Garima Panwar, Amber Chugh-Ashutosh Ghildiyal-Prashant Uniyal, Rhythm Dua-Aparna Bartwal-Vertika Singh, Pulkit Singh-Khushdeep Singh –Abhishek Saklani, Karnika Deo-Navodita Kandari-Pooja Mittal, Pankaj Rawat-Hitesh Gupta –Shaswat Dhyani, Yagya Dalakoti-Pranchita Tiwari-Sakshi Mamgain, Nishant Pant-Siddhant Tiwari-Ankit Juneja, Akhil Thapliyal-Parv Mittal-Debojit Kalita. Well done, all of you!!!

The fifteen teams that had qualified for the National Finals of the INCA Map quiz participated in it on 11th October and then began waiting for the results.

Essay Competition

A number of Summervalians participated in the Essay Writing Competition organized by LIC of India on 5th September. Sonal Goel won the Second prize in the Competition.

Teachers' Day Honours

On the occasion of Teachers' Day, the Director of the School, Mr. Ashok Wasu, and ten teachers of the School, viz. Mr. K.K. Sharma, Mr. M. Saxena, Ms. S. Parasher, Mrs. A. Obeoi, Ms. S. Sofat, Mrs. I. Mittal, Mrs. M. Sharma, Mr. S. Chettri, Mr. S. Bisht and Mrs. S. Bhadola, were honoured by the Rotary Club International (Dehradun Central) on 6th September for their outstanding contribution to the society. Mrs. S. Arora and Mrs. T. Chopra were similarly honoured by the D.A.V. College Association.

Inter-School Science Quiz

The School team, comprising of Pranjal Gandhi, Devika Oberoi and Dinkar Juyal, participated in the Inter-School Science Quiz "Eureka", organized by Welham Girls' School on 12th September. The team performed reasonably well and secured the Third position.

Limca Book of Records Quiz

Three teams, comprising of Dinkar Juyal-Pranjal Gandhi, Kartikeya Singh-Dushyanta Dhyani, Devika Oberoi-Malvika Madhan, participated in the Limca Book of Records of Quiz, organized by Derek O'Brien & Associates for the City Finals, where they remained in the second position for quite some time before ending up in the Fourth place, losing out on the Third position to Welham Girls' school in a tie-breaker.

Inter-School Debate

The School team, comprising of Afzal Badr Khan and Dhruv Joshi, participated in the Inter-School Debate at Marshall School on 9th October. The team put up a great effort but could not win any prizes.

Environment Festival

Ten Summervalians participated in the Environment Festival at the RIMC on 24th October. The students first participated in the cross country run, in which Debojit Kalita secured the First position and Tushar Malik the Second position. The students later participated in the workshops and lectures by various eminent environmentalists.

Skating Rally

Twenty Summervalians participated in a Roller Skating Rally for Disaster Awareness on 29th October. Carrying banners to create an awareness about the issue, the skaters contributed their mite to support the cause.

Inter-School Computer Quiz

The School team, comprising of Dinkar Juyal, Prateek Bansal and Utkarsh Kukreti, participated in the Inter-School Computer Quiz, organized by the Dehradun Chapter of Computer Society of India, at ONGC 's A.M. N. Ghosh Auditorium on 1st November.

Twenty five teams participated in the Quiz and the Summer Valley team performed well to qualify for the main Quiz, where the team then put up a sterling performance to win the Quiz. The team received a Trophy for the School, individual trophies for the participants and a cash prize of Rs. 4,500/- . Congratulations, boys! And keep it up!!!!

Humera Inter-School English Debate

The School team, comprising of Ashish Joshi and Kanjani Sharma, participated in the Humera Inter-School English Debate at Bala Hissar Academy on 10th November. The team performed well but could not win any prizes.

A.C. Deb Memorial Inter-School English Debate

The School team, comprising of Dhruv Joshi and Garima Panwar, participated in the A.C. Deb Memorial Inter-School English Debate at Raja Ram Mohan Roy Academy on 24th November. Both the speakers spoke extremely well and the team emerged as the Winners. Dhruv Joshi won the Best Speaker prize. Congratulations, both of you!! And Keep it up!!!!

Homage to 26/11 Martyrs

The boarders paid homage to the martyrs of the 26/11 attack on Mumbai at a special programme on 26th November. They gathered in the main field after dinner, observed a minutes' silence and then lit a candle each in fond memory of all those who had lost their lives in the gruesome incidents in Mumbai a year ago.

Table Tennis

National Table Tennis Championship

Akshay Dabral, Akash Gupta, Suraj Rana, Neelabh Tewari, Pankaj Goyal and Siddhant Shishodia represented Uttarakhand State in the 71st Sub-Junior National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championship at Chennai from 21st to 26th December. The Uttarakhand team reached the pre-quarter finals in the team event and Akash Gupta reached the pre-quarter finals in the individual event.

Sarthak Chaudhary, Bharat Agarwal, Akshay Dabral, Akash Gupta and Suraj Rana represented Uttarakhand State in the 71st Junior & Youth National and Inter-State Table Tennis Championship at Chennai from 30th December 2009 to 5th January 2010. The team of Akshay Dabral and Suraj Rana reached the pre-quarter finals in the doubles event, upsetting the National 3rd ranked pair on the way.

Uttaranchal State Table Tennis Championship

Sarthak Chaudhary, Akshay Dabral, Akash Gupta, Suraj Rana, Neelabh Tewari, Pankaj Goel, Nimish Latiyan, Siddhant Shishodia, Shauryash Negi, Vanshika Saxena and Tina Rawat represented the Dehradun district team in the 10th Hemlata Kohli Memorial Uttaranchal State Table Tennis Championship at Dehradun on 5th and 6th November.

Shooting

National Shooting Championship

Albha Oberoi, Devika Oberoi, Aarti Arora, Ayushi Dixit, Pritam Singh Sajwan and Harshit Sharma participated in the National Shooting Championship at Jalandhar from 9th to 19th November. All of them performed well and Albha Oberoi, Devika Oberoi and Ayushi Dixit qualified for the next level, i.e., participation in the National Team Trials to be held next year.

All India G.V. Mavalankar Shooting Championship

Thirteen students, viz. Pritam Singh Sajwan, Harshit Sharma, Paras Khurana, Gurveen Singh Ajmani, Pearl Gupta, Aditi, Rituza Roy, Rashmika Das, Ayushi Dixit, Aarti Arora, Aakriti Saxena, Shabnam Yasmin Chaudhary and Pallavi Dora, participated in the All India G.V. Mavalankar Shooting Championship at Asansol from 26th to 28th October, 2009. On the basis of their performance in the Championship, Harshit Sharma, Ayushi Dixit, Aarti Arora and Pritam Singh Sajwan qualified for the Nationals to be held at Jalandhar later in the year.

All-India Inter-School Shooting Championship

Twenty Summervalians, viz. Ayushi Dixit, Aarti Arora, Shabnam Yasmin Choudhary, Geetanjali Arora, Aakriti Saxena, Aditi, Pearl Gupta, Harshit Sharma, Afzal Badr Khan, Pritam Singh Sajwan, Paras Khurana, Yash Kumar Singhal, Gurveen Singh Ajmani, Aman Khandelwal, Rituza Roy, Himangkar Buragohain, Anmol Gupta, Devika Oberoi, Albha Oberoi and Pallavi Dora, participated in the All-India Inter-School Shooting Championship at Meerut from 14th to 18th September.

Albha Oberoi won a silver medal in the .177 Air Pistol (ISSF) category and the team of Pallavi Dora-Ayushi Dixit-Pearl Gupta stood Fourth. Thirteen students, viz. Pallavi Dora, Pritam Singh Sajwan, Gurveen Singh Ajmani, Harshit Sharma, Ayushi Dixit, Aarti Saxena, Aarti Arora, Aditi Rituza Roy, Paras Khurana, Rashmika Das, Pearl Gupta and Shabnam Yasmin Choudhary qualified for the G.V. Mavalankar Pre-National Shooting Championship to be held in Asansol (West Bengal) from 20th to 29th October. Congratulations to all of them!!!! Keep attaining and excelling.

8th Uttarakhand State Shooting Championship

A number of Summervalians participated in the 8th Uttarakhand State Shooting Championship from 20th to 22nd August. All the participants put in a sterling performance and returned with a rich haul of 16 golds, 18 silvers and 6 bronze.

A number of Summervalians participated in the Uttarakhand State Roller Skating Championship held at Summer Valley School on 26th and 27th September. The following performed well and won medals in the Championship:-

A number of Summervalians participated in the XIIth District Inter-School Roller Skating Championship held at Olympus High on 2nd and 3rd May. They performed well and the following returned with medals:-

Basketball

National Basketball Championship

Nandini Karnal and Yuvraj Singh Cheema represented Uttarakhand State in the 26th Youth National Basketball Championship at Mumbai from 9th to 16th May.

Uttarakhand State Basketball Championship

Kongkon Kalita and Parabjit Virmani represented Dehradun District in the 4th Uttarakhand State Basketball Championship for Boys at Dehradun from 17th to 20th May. Divya Kumari represented Dehradun District in the 4th Uttarakhand State Basketball Championship for Girls at Dehradun from 17th to 20th May. Dehradun District won both the titles.

District Basketball Championship

The School's teams participated in the District Basketball Championship from 25th to 27th April.

The Junior Boys' team defeated Jaswant Modern School 22-0, The Heritage School 12-10, lost 8-26 to Pestleweed College and beat Carman School 16-12 to enter the semi-finals. The team defeated The Aryan School 28-8 in the semi-final but lost 17-32 to Welham Boys' School in the Final to secure the Runners-up position. A very commendable performance, indeed!!!!

The Junior Girls' team defeated Hopetown School 18-4 and St. Thomas' College 40-4 but lost 4-19 to Convent of Jesus & Mary and 5-38 to Welham Girls' School.

The Senior Boys' team defeated Moravian Institute 20-18 in their first match but narrowly lost 11-14 to St. Joseph's Academy and 14-16 to Pestleweed College in the next two to bow out of the Championship.

Yuvraj Singh Cheema, Avinash Kumar Singh and Nandini karnal were selected for the Coaching Camps to select the District teams.

District Basketball Championship

The School's Girls' Under-15 team participated in the District Basketball Championship at Welham Girls' School from 3rd to 6th November. The team defeated Unison World School 20-10 and The Heritage School 26-20 to enter the semi-finals, where it lost 11-38 to Welham Girls' School.

The School's Boys' Under-15 team participated in the District Basketball Championship at Doon International School from 3rd to 6th November. The team defeated The Asian School 33-25 but lost 25-33 to Welham Boys' School to bow out of the Championship.

The Girls' Under-16 team participated in the District Basketball Championship at Welham Girls' School on 11th November. The team defeated The Heritage School 21-18 in its first match but lost 11-38 to St. Thomas' College in the second to make an exit from the Championship.

Council Schools Basketball Tournament

The School team participated in the Council Schools Basketball Tournament at Raja Ram Mohan Roy Academy on 11th and 12th November. The team defeated Shivalik International 33-30 in its first match but lost 12-20 to Raja Ram Mohan Roy Academy in the second to bow out of the Tournament.

The School's Girls' team participated in the Council Schools' Basketball Tournament at The Heritage School from 16th to 20th November. The team lost 15-16 to The Aryan School and 4-18 to The Heritage School to bow out of the Tournament.

The School's Junior Boys' team participated in the Council Schools Basketball Tournament at Indian Cambridge School on 24th and 25th November. The team lost 15-29 to The Aryan School and 20-35 to Hilton's School.

Fixed Fives Basketball Tournament

The School team participated in the Fixed Fives Basketball Championship at Hilton School on 23rd October. The team lost to the Aryan School in its very first match to make an early exit from the Tournament.

Chess

Council Schools Chess Championship

The School team participated in the Council Schools Chess Championship at Ann Mary School on 29th August.

In the Junior category, Milan Arora and Aishwarya Gupta lost in the first round. In the Senior category, Sai Satyam Pokharel reached the second round but Ankita Gupta lost in the first round.

Open Chess Tournament

Ankita Gupta and Milan Arora participated in the First Open Chess Tournament organized by the Doon Sports Academy from 10th to 12th April. Ankita played well and stood Second in the Tournament and Milan Arora Fourth.

Open Chess Championship

The Inter-House Chess Championship was played from 20th to 23rd April. All the players has played a good knowledge of the game and came up with some very fine and attritional and exciting moves resulting in well-contested games. The following emerges as the winners:-

Cricket

Indoor Cricket Tournament

The School team participated in the Inter-School Indoor Cricket Tournament at St. Thomas' College from 21st April to 6th May. The team defeated Doon Presidency by 5 wickets, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Academy by an innings and 8 runs, St. Jude's by 1 wicket and received a walkover from Himalayan Public School to reach the quarter-finals, where they lost to Carman School by 4 wickets.

Shri Rohtash Singh Memorial Inter –School Super Eights Cricket Tournament

The School team participated in the Shri Rohtash Singh Memorial Inter-School Super Eights Cricket Tournament at The Heritage School from 1st to 12th October. The team defeated Bala Hissar Academy by 10 runs and Constancia School by 6 wickets but lost to The Indian Cambridge School by 13 runs. The team then had to play a bowl out, the team faced Carman school in the semi-finals, where they lost by six wickets. Yuvraj Singh Chemma was adjudged the Bowler of the Tournament.

Badminton

Open Badminton Championship

Six Summervalians – Vibhor Papenja, Shivam Mishra, Sai Satyam Pokharel, Sagar Rathee, Shivanshu and Rajat Kandwal-participated in the Open Badminton Championship at The Doon School from 1st to 3rd September. While Shivam Mishra reached the semi-finals and Sai Satyam and Rajat Kandwal the quarter-finals, Vibhor Papneja played exceedingly well to win the Under-19 singles title. Well done, Vibhor!!!Keep it up!!!

District Badminton Championship

A number of Summervalians participated in the District Badminton Championship on 24th and 25th April. Shivam Mishra, Rajat Kandwal and Sameer Chaudhary reached the quarter-finals in the singles and Shivam Mishra and Nishant Chauhan in the Doubles.

A number of Summervalians participated in the District Badminton Championship at Parade Ground from 9th to 16th August and performed quite well.

Vibhor Papneja reached the semi-finals and Shivam Mishra the quarter-finals in the Under-16 Boys' singles and Nishant Chauhan and Debojit Kalita the pre-quarter finals. Sameer Chaudhary reached the semi-finals in he Under-10 Boys' singles and Vibhor Papneja and Jitpat reached the semi-finals in the Under-16 Boys' doubles. Shivanshu Kumar reached the quarter finals and Rajat Kandwal the pre-quarter finals in the Under-13 Boys' singles.

Council Schools Badminton Tournament

The School participated in the Council Schools Badminton Tournament at The Aryan School from 7th to 9th November. The team lost to St. Thomas' College in its first match to make an early exit from the Tournament.

Football

Carbery Memorial Sub-Junior Football Tournament

The School team participated in the Carbery Memorial Sub Junior Football Tournament from 3rd to 8th August. The School drew 0-0 with The Aryan School and lost 0-5 to St. Joseph's Academy, 1-4 to The Indian Public School and 2-3 to Hilton School.

Council Schools Football Tournament

The School team participated in the Council Schools Football Tournament at St. Joseph's Academy from 12th to 18th September and put up a splendid display. The team defeated Carman School 2-0, lost 1-3 to St. Joseph's Academy and beat GRD Academy 4-1 to enter the quarter-finals. The team overcame The Aryan School 1-0 in a well-contested match to enter the semi-finals, where they lost 0-4 to St. Joseph's Academy. A creditable outing, indeed!!!!

Coca Cola Sub-Junior Inter-School District Football Championship

The School team participated in the Coca Cola Sub-Junior Inter –School District Football Championship from 7th to 9th November. The team received a walkover from Guru Nanak Academy and defeated Guru Ram Rai School 4-0 to enter the Final. The Final against Welham Boys' School was a closely contested affair and ended in a draw. As the penalty shootout too produced no result, a sudden death penalty shootout was resorted to, in which the team lost 4-5. A commendable performance, nonetheless!!!

Tennis

AITA Championship

Dhruv Pal and Shivam Kotiyal participated in the AITA Lawn Tennis Championship at Dehradun from 26th to 31st October. Dhruv Pal put up a sterling performance to win the Under-12 singles title. He also reached the quarter-finals in the Under-14 singles and the semi-finals in the Under-12 doubles. Shivam Kotiyal reached th quarter-finals in the Under-14 doubles. Well done, boys!!!! Keep it up.

Volleyball

Council School Volleyball Tournament

The School team participated in the Council Schools Volleyball Tournament at Guru Nanak Academy from 18th to 23rd November. The team lost 0-2 to The Indian Public School and 1-2 to Guru Nanak Academy and received walkovers in two matches.
